How about them biggest losers?

I don't know about you but I was pretty darn impressed with Tuesday night's 32 lb weight loss! If you missed the show- beg, barrow, steal it and then watch it. For all you Comcast subscribers its only 14.95 a mo for a DVR... I got one specifically so I don't miss out. How have the first few days gone for everyone? I want to hear all about it! I am very excited to eat my Red Cabbage Salad tonight. I'll post the recipe soon. I made this post mostly to get some conversation going. What are you doing to work out? What are you eating?

  1. TO start the conversation.... I spent 90 min of the elliptical during biggest loser. Yesterday I had my workout scheduled but the time got eaten up by an emergency meeting :( I was really sad to not get a workout in! My eating has been okay but not amazing due to the fact that I haven't gotten to go to the grocery store yet.

  2. So here is my story for the week! We went to Indianapolis today because Bekah had to get some things ready for school. Well close to the school there is a Paradise Cafe. Now if any of you have been to a Paradise Cafe you know it is just that...Paradise. Anyway I was feeling pretty good about my half wrap half salad...but I topped it off with the most amazing Chocolate Chip cookie (If you have never eaten there it is a must!) and was still feeling pretty good. Then the lady says to us...we are closing and have a ton of cookies just sitting here! I am going to send you home with 5 or 6. So now they are just sitting on my counter beggng me to eat them. Why didn't this happen a week ago? Luckily they are not chocolate chip so I am less tempted.

  3. So I was chatting with Chad the other day and we were laughing about the fact that drinking this much water means we spend about half our time in the bathroom! Then I almost peed my pants in Target yesterday!!! Oh my!

Thanks, Meg, for getting the conversation going!

  4. Give the cookies away!!! Did you know we just got a paradise in American Fork. I found it in Denver a few years ago and it is paradise! I think I ate to many carbs yesterday- after I long workout I gained weight :( from yesterday

  5. Shut up..you have a Paradise Cafe in American Fork. The good news is that if you are dying to go out it is a pretty healthy option..and as I said it is Paradise!

So I have never watched the Biggest Loser. When is it on? Do you really think it is worth the time?

I am doing a lot of cardio and doing some lifting. It has been going well so far..today I am quite sore but sore is good!

As far as food, I am just really watching portions and part of that is to make sure I eat more than 3 times a day! Even if inbetween a small breakfast and a small lunch I have a banana or something. And as Mandy said I am drinking water like there is no tomorrow. It is incredible the amount of water you are supposed to drink!

  7. You have never watched the Biggest Loser? You have got to be kidding me!!! And...yes, there is a new Paradise Cafe in American Fork. Shaunz and mom invited me for lunch today, and I had to turn them down!!! That's 2 free lunches this week that I missed out on. This better be worth it! So I'm doing the "Sacred Heart Diet" to start out...Kris College gave it to mom. I've done it once before and lost about 7 pounds. We'll see how it goes this time...

  8. Quick question...what is everyone's opinion of Crystal Light?

  9. I am a big fan of plain water...but every once in a while I pull out some Crystal Light! I think it is good especially once a day when you are getting sick of water! It helps me drink a bottle of water pretty quick...if I do have use a crystal light pack I have it in the middle of the day.

Oh there are a lot of healthy choices at Paradise Cafe...so you will have to go there sometime! I know this will all be worth it...even if you feel more healthy that is worth it.

  10. Sorry one more thing...but I wouldn't have Crystal Light all day because at 10 calories per pack and 8 bottles of water, that is 80 calories. I personally would like to have one maybe two bottles with Crystal Light and save the other calories for something else!

  11. Me too. I have been having Crystal Light in one bottle, about the middle of the day, like you said. Right around that time when I have a craving for something sweet and feel like I'm going to explode with water!!!
It seems to help with the craving and then I can go back to water again.

  12. I started counting calories for the first time in my life, and I really like it. I like keeping track of exactly what's going in me, and I've got a little bit of an obsessive personality about some things, so it's perfect for that. Also, I find that not only does keeping track make me choose healthier options for my meals, but they're more delicious, too. Last night I made salmon for Luke and I that was probably the most delicious meal I've ever made:

    Mix together:
    1 T ground ginger
1-2 cloves of garlic (depending on how much you like it).
    1/2 t salt
    1 t black pepper
    1/2 t olive oil

spread the mixture on top of two salmon fillets, cover the fillets with:
    2 sliced roma tomatos
    1 c sliced mushrooms
    1/4 cup fresh grated parmesan.

Broil until the fish is done (about ten minutes) on a rack in the middle of the oven. The parmesan will burn just a little bit.

We ate it with brown rice and mixed vegetables, and it was as good as anything in a restaurant! My friend ate with us, and made the same thing with a boneless, skinless chicken breast, instead of salmon. It was good, but the salmon was better.

  13. Starting this out while on vacation has been tough, but I have exercised every day which makes me feel 10x better even if I don't eat EXACTLY as I had planned.

I am making sure to eat 5-6 times a day rather than 2-3 so I am staying fuller longer and don't crave sweets as bad in the middle of the afternoon.

I prefer Propel packets over crsystal light. The same 10 calories, I just prefer it and use it for 1 or 2 bottles of water if I am sick of plain water.

I leave Vegas on Monday and head to Salt Lake , at least I will be grocery shopping & cooking for myself, that way I can eat what I want/need.

We'll see come Tuesday morning how this week went!

  14. I love crystal light and I join the consensus on 1-2 packets a day. I find that after I drink it I can am more thirsty for water and keep drinking more liquid :) yum!!!

Love the comments please keep posting! I saw checho at the gym today- he's tiny! What has he been doing? I want details.

I ran 4 miles today and it was great except my hip is really hurting... hope that goes away!

I finally made the red cabbage salad!

I head of red cabbage (shred it using a cheese grater or food processor)
    1/3 cup sliced almonds
    1/3 cup sunflower seeds
    3T sesame seeds
1 package ramen crunched up (no seasoning)

    dressing:
    1/3 cup vegetable oil
    2 T white vinegar
    2 T sugar
    1 t salt
    1 t pepper

I love the texture and crunch. I eat it right away as I like the crunchiness so I usually mix it a little at a time so that I have that same experience every time I eat it. I'll try and post a pic tomorrow

  15. Meg, I don't know if you know that Checho was diagnosed with diabetes a few months ago. Since he has dropped about 25 lbs! The regimen? No more Wendys! He hasn't had a soda since the day he found out...and has replaced it with water. He is on a "diet" that indicates how many carbs he can eat per meal, and per snack. He eats 6 times per day. He doesn't watch calories at all, just eats the amount of carbs he's supposed to eat. And, of course, exercise. Oh...and they have him on a medication called metformin. It's supposed to regulate your body and help it work the way it's supposed to work. (Also helps to lose weight...wish I could get some!!!

  16. Megan said I could join in the posting, I hope that is OK. I started my program on Jan 2 and hope to be to my prepregnancy weight by the twins birthday April 11. I am doing weight watchers core program. I am not actually a member just doing the diet. It is pretty much 80% plant based some lean meat and one serving of whole wheat pasta, brown rice or potatoes a day. NO bread, of any kind. It hasn't been too bad at all and I take one weekend day off each week and eat what I want. I have lost 3 lbs so far which isn't much but I feel like my shape is definitely changing. I can see my old two pack when I flex through the layer of fat of course. Anyway I'm killing myself at the gym and joined my gym's biggest loser program which starts in February. They put you in teams and you have a trainer and work together and all that and the winner gets a cash prize. It's just like the show. I'm really excited, and nervous.
